Emergency Medical Technician Applied Technology Diploma Program

Program Description: The Emergency Medical Services program contains three milestones to meet the needs of the community. The Applied Technology Diploma for the EMT (milestone 1) and the Technical Certificate for the EMT (milestone 2) are included in the Emergency Medical Services (milestone 3).

 

Satisfactory completion of the EMT Applied Technology Diploma program (milestone 1) will enable the student to apply for the National licensure to practice as an allied health practitioner in the Prehospital Emergency Medicine Environment. Satisfactory completion of the upgrade courses in the Technical Diploma Program will enable students to better be able to improve on their skills portfolios within their scope of practice.

Program Entrance Requirements: The Emergency Medical Technical Applied Technology Diploma is a limited access program. Admission to the training center’s EMT program does not guarantee admission into the program. Students are required to complete a supplemental application and meet specific criteria. There are a limited number of students admitted to the program each course. Please refer to the Program Admissions information included in Program catalog for specific admissions requirements. Additional Program Information: Students spend time in the classroom, the EMS lab, in local area hospitals, and/or on Advanced Life Support ambulances to gain the range of didactic, psychomotor, and affective knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function as entry-level Emergency Medical Technician.

 

All classes in the program must be successfully completed with a “B” or better to move to the final examination. All EMT-level EMS classes must be taken at Center for Prehospital Emergency Medical Services, Ministry of Education and Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) Level 3 approved/recognized Training Centers.

 

The Emergency Medical Technician Program is fully Endorsed by the Ministry of since 2005, recognized by the Ministry of Education Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) & Accreditation Unit since 2011.

 

Location(s): Program specific courses are offered at the Center for Prehospital Emergency Medical Services (CPHEMS), Emergency Health Management Systems (EHMS) and Life Flight Services St. Lucia Headquarters, Sans Souci, Castries, Saint Lucia, West Indies.
